Insight Film Studios, the Vancouver company that generated $400 million in film and television production in the last three years, is downsizing its operation.
…Since January Insight has laid off 28 of its 100 employees, hiring back 10 of them on a contract basis.
This, Insight president Kirk Shaw said, will be the direction the company must follow in order to survive the current financial crisis.
…It also plans to eliminate its post-production facility.
The company has averaged more than 35 projects a year, primarily feature films, and Shaw said that number will drop to about 20 in 2009.
…Insight is currently shooting the feature Icarus and is in pre-production for Stonehenge: Apocalypse, the latter in partnership with another production house. It has another eight films in the pipeline for the coming months.
