TORONTO (CP) — When the novice filmmakers behind the haunting historical tale Before Tomorrow debuted their full-length feature at a special screening last year, their Inuit audience of friends and family was taken aback.
…People were surprised, I think they were not expecting a bunch of women to do such a good film,” co-director Marie-Helene Cousineau says her co-director and star, Madeline Piujuq Ivalu, insisted the film use traditional Inuktitut dialogue and consulted daily with elders to ensure authenticity.
…The film is a co-production with Isuma Productions, the company behind the Inuit dramas Atanarjuat, The Fast Runner (2001) and The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (2006).
…Before Tomorrow is based on the novel “For morgendagen” by Danish writer Jorn Riel.
